Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)

I've already tried Eggless French toast(SavouryVersion) here and was totally happy with the results. So here is my french toast sweet version. I luv to try anything new out of bread, and this try was totally successful. These are simple and quick to make.....but trust me they are very tasty.

Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)
Ingredients:
  • Whole wheat bread - 4 slices [White bread would also do]
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Cornflour - 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence - 1 tsp
  • Custard powder - 1 to 2 tsp [optional]
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Ghee/Oil - 1 tbsp to toast

Method:
  1. Boil milk, switch off. Now combine the warm milk with cornflour, vanilla essence, sugar and custard powder in a wide bowl.

  2. Stir well till cornflour and sugar is dissolved fully.

  3. Heat a pan/dosa tawa, Add ghee or oil. Dip the bread slices on both the sides in the milk mixture, place the bread slices on the pan. Allow it to get toasted well now turn bread over and cook on other side. If its sticky add a little more ghee.

  4. Cut diagonally and serve with topping of your choice or can be served as such. Serve hot/warm!

NOTE : While dipping dont leave it for more time , just a fraction of second for each side of the bread else the bread slices would become mushy and stick to the pan.

  26. made it now and we are loving it sharmee :)..

do u add the cornflour into hot or warm milk?..i cooled down the milk to luke warm and added the rest of the ing..the bread slice absorbed the milk so fast and i had to squeeze out LOL.. and was a bit sticky on the tawa..

the hot slices taste awesome with that flavour of vanilla and a little excess ghee which went into it..

will be making regularly for my son as a back school tea time quick snack..:)

  27. My li'l one LOVES french toast and I keep hunting for different variation for anything she likes. Gotta give this a try and also the savory version of it.
    Thanks for sharing!

  28. @Bharathy : Thanks so much for trying & letting me knw! I added cornflour in warm milk only updated in recipe too....:) yeah thats what I said in my notes just to dip the slices for a second else the bread will absorb milk quickly and will become mushy....:) When u just dip and put in the ghee/oil added tawa the stickyness will be reduced.

  29. ah fine.. :) My son wants to thank you as he is having slice number 7 now ;)..

thicker stale slices would fair well i suppose sharmee, than reg fresh slices..or wheat as you'd mentioned..will toast them on a non stick tawa next!

    Thank You once again! :)

  43. Wow looks so delicious.. I love french toast and was searching for a nice eggless recipe! this is going to be my breakfast tomorrow morning :)

  44. Just wondering what the custard powder is made from. I am allergic to eggs, not just avoiding their bad qualities.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Pennny : Custard powder is just cornflour with vanilla essence. It is purely optional for this toaste so you can very well skip it too....
