Rava Onion Oothapam & Tomato Chutney

Happy Mothers day to all mothers out there! And I dedicate this post to my mother who had been my all time support so far and yrs to come! Yesterday I made onion rava oothapam and tomato chutney. Both went great together....and here goes the recipe:

Rava Onion Oothapam & Tomato Chutney
Ingredients:
  • Rava- 2 cups
  • Rice Flour/ Idly,dosa batter - 2.5 tbsp
  • Curry leaves- few chopped
  • Red chilli pwdr - 2 tsp
  • Curd/yogurt- 4 tbsp
  • Onion- 1 chopped finely
  • Green chillies- 2-3 chopped
  • Salt to taste
Rava Onion Oothapam & Tomato Chutney
Method:
  1. Combine all the above together in a large bowl.Add enough water to make the batter, It should be dosa batter consistency but a lil thicker than that.

  2. Spread it into oothapams onto a hot pan, pour little oil along sides.

  3. Turn it once it becomes light brown on the ends. Cook both the sides and serve hot. It was crispy at the edges and crunchy inside.

NOTE : We can also have half of onions mixed up in the batter and half of it sprinkled while oothapams are made.

For Tomato Chutney, I followed exactly Priyas recipe. It can go very well with idlis and dosas.

  5. I so love dosai, idli and oothappam. I haven't found any decent place here that makes good dosai/oothappam. Sat we had masala dosai - the batter was SOOOOO sour - it must have been sitting in the fridge for 4-6 days I think chee! Can't wait to get back to india or use your recipe and make oothapam!!!! mmmmm...

  20. @Mitha : This is kind of a thick oothapam variety....The batter should be slightly thick like dosa batter and not like rava dosa batter...even am not able to figure out what went wrong :(

  21. I think I should have added onions once after spreading the batter on tawa. bcoz I already added the onions and greenc chillies to the batter . so had a tough time spreading the batter.
and also instead of rice powder I added dosa batter.
but have u tried vah reh vah rava dosa ( where he sprinkles the rava dosa batter (butter milk consistency) on hot tawa. could u please post that dear.
I made it long long ago
It would be useful to see it on ur blog
